The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 8:30 p.m. Monday Mar. 2, 2026 at City Hall. Those present were Mayor Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Vanessa Tonne, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members Jessica Krier, Ben Avery, Michael Ohnsat, Sara Dilley and Mark Towner. Guests present were Candace Brummer and Tracey Palen from Tipton’s TAG group.
Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Guests Candace Brummer and Tracey Palen presented their idea for purchasing more flags for the downtown light poles, from the TAG organization funds. Pictures were shown and the Council agreed to let the TAG organization design the looks of them. New brackets will be needed to install the flags at a lower level. They also presented the idea of installing a book nook downtown, a couple locations were discussed. Council approved of this idea, since the City no longer has a public library.
Minutes from the Feb. 9, 2026 meeting were reviewed and approved.
There were 4 late fees on utility bills and 0 letters sent.
The sales tax receipt for February was $6,576.85. Receipts for Feb. were $105,083.65 and disbursements totaled $33,504.58.
General ledger was reviewed with the bills and receipts. Michael Ohnsat made the motion to pay the bills; Sara Dilley seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Vanessa reported that a check from Roberts Funeral Home was received for $300, Helena Gasper grave. Also a check from Frances Sweat, for Colette Sweat grave in the amount of $150 has been received.
Updates were given on the new concessions building. Council member Mark Towner discussed that the exercise equipment will be delivered mid/late March for the new fitness room. Discussion was held on price of membership for a single membership or family membership. It was decided, that the membership fee will be yearly. An open house was discussed when the fitness room and dance studio are complete. At that time people can sign up for a membership, if they wish.
Jessica Krier gave an update on the grant for a couple new flag poles at the park/ball fields. The grant will cover one flag pole and flags. Will also need to purchase a solar light so the flag could stay up longer.
K of C Hall roof was discussed; a leak needs to be repaired. Mayor Jarrod Shivers mentioned that a bid has been received from Knoll’s in Osborne and is currently waiting on a bid from TREB Construction.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:40pm. Next meeting date is Monday, April 6th at 7:30 pm.
