CITY OF TIPTON – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – April 6, 2026
The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday April 6, 2026 at City Hall. Those present were Mayor Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Vanessa Tonne, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members Jessica Krier, Ben Avery, Michael Ohnsat, Sara Dilley and Mark Towner.
Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the March 2, 2026 meeting were reviewed and approved.
There were 6 late fees on utility bills and 0 letters sent.
The sales tax receipt for March was $5,496.75. Receipts for March were $54,950.56 and disbursements totaled $22,830.56.
General ledger was reviewed with the bills and receipts. Mark Towner made the motion to pay the bills; Ben Avery seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Vanessa reported that a check from Roberts Funeral Home was received for $300, Lisa Merklein grave. High school scholarship winners were announced for the Fr Norbert Dlabal/City of Tipton Scholarship.
Updates were given on the new concessions building. Council member Mark Towner discussed that the exercise equipment has not been delivered yet, he is hoping for this week. Discussion was held on price of membership. Council members decided on $100/Single membership and $200/Family membership. Membership renewal will renew in May of each year. An open house will take place on April 25th in the morning. At this time people can sign up for a membership, if they wish and tour the new facility. Mayor Jarrod Shivers did mention that we will need to hire someone to clean the facility. Vanessa reported that she spoke to Wilson Communications regards to Wifi setup. They put us on a list to have the fiber optics ran to the building asap. The new security system in the building will require a Wifi connection at certain times per Rod Barker. Wilson Communications will be emailing Vanessa list of prices for this set up, including a router.
Mayor Shivers received a quote on a Tipton Cardinal design to be made for the Isle of Lights. All council members approved the decision.
Dream Big update, Vanessa will order the new net that will be used in the basketball court at the City Park.
TREB Construction fixed the roof on the K of C Community Building
City Superintendent Rod Barker mentioned that he is looking into purchasing a box blade for snow removal. Discussion was held on pricing and where to purchase the blade.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:58 pm. Next meeting date is Monday, May 4th at 7:30 pm.
