CITY OF TIPTON – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – June 2, 2026
The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday June 2, 2026 at City Hall. Those present were Mayor Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Vanessa Tonne, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members Ben Avery, Michael Ohnsat, Sara Dilley and Mark Towner. Absent Jessica Krier
Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
Minutes from the May 4, 2026 meeting were reviewed and approved.
There were 2 late fees on utility bills and 1 letter sent.
The sales tax receipt for May was $5,510.55. Receipts for March were $17,155.75 and disbursements totaled $51,327.56.
General ledger was reviewed with the bills and receipts. Sara Dilley made the motion to pay the bills; Ben Avery seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Wifi has been installed by Wilson Communications, in the Sports Complex Building/Fitness Center. There will be hot zones available from the building to be used at the annual Tipton Church Picnic July 31 and August 1, around the park and ball field area.
Updates were given on the new concessions building. A couple outlets that were found not to be working, have been fixed and are now in working order. Council member, Mark Towner, reported that the fitness center is going well. A leg press machine has been ordered to complete the work out equipment in the Fitness Center. Sara Dilley mentioned to possibly get the building sprayed for bugs, everyone was in favor of this.
City Clerk, Vanessa Tonne will be moving from her current address here in Tipton, to a new address outside of city limits. Discussion was held and a Charter Ordinance will need to be completed. This ordinance will allow the city clerk to reside outside the city limits. Michael Ohnsat made the motion to complete the Charter Ordinance; Sara Dilley seconded the motion. Motion Carried.
Mayor Shivers discussed the possibly of having the city purchase a scissor lift or bucket truck. A few times throughout the year it would be beneficial as new flags have been purchased and received. And then also, putting up Christmas decorations. Future discussion will be held.
Superintendent Rod Barker let the council know that there is a wooden bridge connecting the street to a sidewalk, near Church that is broke and needs replaced. It is a tripping hazard and He talked about replacing it with cement. He will talk to Treb.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm. Next meeting date is Monday, July 6th at 7:30 pm.
