Tipton City Council Meeting October 2, 2023

CITY OF TIPTON – CITY COUNCIL MEETING – Monday October 2, 2023

The regular meeting of the Tipton City Council was held at 7:30 p.m. Monday October 2, 2023 at City Hall.   Those present were Mayor-Jarrod Shivers, City Clerk Brigit Gasper, City Superintendent Rod Barker and City Council members – Ben Avery, Jessica Krier, Michael Ohnsat, Mark Towner and Sara Dilley. 

Mayor Jarrod Shivers called the meeting to order.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. 

Minutes from the September 5, 2023 meeting were reviewed and approved.

Brigit gave an update on the utility bills. There were 7 late fees charged, 3 letters sent, and 4 full payments received.

The sales tax receipt for September was $4812.22.  Receipts for September were $29684.38 and disbursements were $20209.27 to date.   Receipts and bills were reviewed in addition to upcoming expenses.  The general ledger report for each of the separate funds was reviewed along with the year-to-date disbursements and income for each of the funds. Possible upcoming expenses were also discussed.   Michael Ohnsat made the motion to pay the bills; Ben Avery seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

Brigit reported that there was in insert in the PrairieLand electric bills with notification that they will be changing out some of the electric meters for some of their customers.  PrairieLand will call affected customers prior to them coming to change out the meter.  Not all customers will be affected; those affected will be notified.

The City has looked into purchasing 2 lots from the Diocese of Salina in the area of the existing concession stand for some possible improvements.  It was reported that the Diocese has agreed to sell the lots to the City.  Jessica Krier made the motion to purchase the lots; Michael Ohnsat seconded the motion.  Motion carried.  Brigit will contact the City Attorney to prepare the necessary documents needed to complete the purchase of the lots. 

Tipton Grocery owners Drew and Brandi Shirack are looking into purchasing needed equipment to update the existing equipment in the store.  They are checking into grant opportunities.

Upcoming election day, November 7 was discussed.  Voting will take place at the Community Building.

Street repair cost and suitable equipment for the repair process was discussed.  Options are being investigated.

Rod reported that he has been having some issues with notifications on his phone for the water tower and wastewater systems. This is due to changes in cell phone systems and will need to be updated to fix the issue.    He has talked to Pierce Electronics and they provided a bid for the equipment needed to update notification system.  A motion was made by Ben Avery to get the needed update for the systems; Sara Dilley seconded the motion.  Motion carried.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm and the next meeting will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 7:30 pm.
